CSG is currently the dominant driver of drilling activities and
gas production in Queensland. Exploration for other petroleum
sources, such as shale gas and tight gas, is only just beginning in
Queensland. The presence of gas in deeper parts of sedimentary
basins indicates that formations have potential to contain
significant tight gas resources.
Queensland has two basins currently producing CSG, the Bowen
and Surat basins (Figures 4 & 5). A number of other basins have
potential and are currently being explored.
